Logical Operations, the world’s leading provider of information technology instructor-led courseware, will host the Upstate New York Regional Cybersecurity Forum at RIT Tuesday, June 14. This forum allows businesses, industry experts, and individuals to come together and discuss one of today’s most critical concerns: how to keep personal and corporate data secure.
According to a recent report from IBM, human error causes about 95 percent of data breaches. Most employees are unaware of just how much their everyday actions could put their organization and themselves at risk. Even with the best security infrastructure in the world, all it takes is one click on one wrong link to compromise critical data and information systems and cost the organization millions of dollars.
The goal of the Upstate New York Regional Cybersecurity Forum is to educate consumers and businesses about actionable steps they can take to protect themselves against cyber threats. This forum provides a unique opportunity for representatives from academia, law enforcement, and industry to interact with the community and discuss ways to increase cybersecurity awareness and change behavior in order to keep data secure.
The forum will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Rochester Institute of Technology on the 2nd floor of the SLA Building. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an “Ask the Experts” panel that will include representatives from the U.S. Secret Service, RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, and more, who will be available to answer questions about critical cybersecurity issues that are affecting businesses and individuals.
"Research has repeatedly shown that most security breaches start with human error. This event will highlight many simple steps people can take to live a safer personal and professional digital life,” said Bill Rosenthal, CEO, Logical Operations. “We’d like to thank our local partners—Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, ESL Federal Credit Union, Entre Computer Services, RIT, and New Horizons at Logical Operations—who helped make this event a success.”
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Duffy said, “Good business runs in a large part on trust. That trust includes the proper handling of sensitive customer data, from credit card numbers to contact and other personal information. Rochester Chamber is pleased to partner with Logical Operations to present this cybersecurity forum to share the latest information on how businesses can protect their own and their customers’ data and maintain that critical trust.”
“Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is making the commitment to our Accredited Businesses to take a proactive approach to cybersecurity,” said Warren Clark, president and CEO of BBB. “We know the first step for securing technology is to understand and manage risks, which is why this cybersecurity forum is so critical.”
“Understanding and addressing the overt as well as the hidden costs of cybersecurity is core to our ability to mitigate risk and provide professional IT direction for our clients. We view this forum as an important step towards that understanding,” remarked Andre Godfrey, CEO, Entre Computer Services.
“Cybersecurity has become a strategic priority, and major concern for businesses, today,” said Matt Davis, Manager, Information Security, ESL Federal Credit Union. “ESL is pleased to partner with Logical Operations and provide area businesses with strategies to protect their customers’ information and privacy. Sharing this type of information helps safeguard us all.”
