Logical Operations to Sponsor the First Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition, a “Hackathon”, at Rochester Institute of Technology
October 16, 2015 Rochester, NY

Logical Operations, the world’s leading provider of information technology instructor-led courseware, announces their sponsorship of the first Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC), a two-day hackathon event held on November 7th and 8th  at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The sponsorship of this exclusive inter-collegiate penetration testing competition coincides with Logical Operations’ dedication to enabling professionals to become the first line of response against cyber-attacks through hands-on, instructor-led training that will prepare IT professionals to tackle real-life security incidents. At this event, elite teams from Rochester Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, the United States Naval Academy, the State University of New York at Buffalo, Tompkins Cortland Community College, Alfred State SUNY College of Technology, Syracuse University, and University of New Hampshire (UNH) will have the chance to put the cybersecurity skills they learned in class to the test in a fast-paced, competitive environment that models a real-life penetration as closely as possible. The mission of the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) is to provide institutions with a controlled, competitive environment to exercise their depth of understanding and operational competency in managing the challenges in providing penetration testing services to a corporate network infrastructure and business information systems.

In addition to sponsoring this event, Logical Operations will offer students the opportunity to sit for Logical Operations’ high-stakes Certified CyberSec First Responder: Threat Detection and Response exam, which will validate that they have the skills required to analyze threats, secure networks, handle incidents, and utilize other critical security skills necessary to ensure that they can protect organizations from cyber threats once they are on the job.

According to Bill Stackpole, Associate Professor of Computing Security at Rochester Institute of Technology, “RIT and the eight other competing teams are super excited about the first Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition - only three weeks to go before the November 7th/8th event! None of this would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors:  Logical Operations, Vectra Networks, and IBM! Thank you.”

“We are thrilled to sponsor the first Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition at Rochester Institute of Technology,” said Bill Rosenthal, CEO, Logical Operations. “Now more than ever, building cybersecurity skills at the college level, prior to students entering the workforce, is critical. This hackathon event gives students a chance to display their highly in-demand cybersecurity skills to potential employers at the infancy of their careers, proving that they will be ready to protect and defend their future organizations from security threats.”
