December 11, 2015 Rochester, NY

Logical Operations, the world's leading provider of information technology instructor-led courseware, was a proud sponsor of the Two Steps Ahead: Protect Your Digital Life event held at Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday, December 8th.

The Two Steps Ahead: Protect Your Digital Life event was held in partnership with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a non-profit public-private partnership focused on helping all digital citizens stay safer and more secure online. Over 200 people attended the event on Tuesday, which is part of the NCSA's THINK. CONNECT. Two Steps Ahead: Protect Your Digital Life Tour to educate consumers and businesses about adopting simple security measures like Two-Step Authentication into their everyday lives. The goal of this national tour is to spread the word about activating easily implemented security features, like Two-Step Authentication, available on many of the web's most popular sites, as other steps everyone can easily take to protect their data in their daily lives.

Hon. Joseph D. Morelle, Majority Leader, New York State Assembly, opened the event with remarks prior to a hands-on demonstration from Kristin Judge, Director of Special Projects at the National Cyber Security Alliance, who showed attendees how to improve their security on sites like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and financial institutions. The morning was capped off by a panel that included local consumer protection and cybersecurity experts who fielded questions from attendees about the best way to keep their information secure.

The event featured remarks on how to improve security from:

  • Paul Hoffmann, Director of Certifications, Logical Operations
  • William W. Destler, President, Rochester Institute of Technology
  • Hon. Joseph D. Morelle, Majority Leader, New York State Assembly
  • Warren Clark, President & CEO Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York
  • FBI Special Agent, Buffalo Division Cyber Squad
  • Bo Yuan, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair Department of Computing Security, Rochester Institute of Technology
  • Michael Kaiser, Executive Director, National Cyber Security Alliance
  • Kristin Judge, Director of Special Projects, National Cyber Security Alliance

"Research has repeatedly shown that most security breaches start with human error. This event highlighted many simple steps people can take to live a safer personal and professional 'digital life,'" said Bill Rosenthal, CEO of Logical Operations and an event sponsor.

Paul Hoffmann, Director of Certifications at Logical Operations and a speaker at the event, commented, "Gone are the days when a four digit PIN was all we needed keep our data secure. Now one of the best methods is using Two-Factor Authentication. Two-Factor Authentication gives you more control over securing your information than a password alone. Realize that you need to be vigilant. You are the best protection of your information. If you don't know how, you need to get trained."
