Beyond Scratching the Surface of Business Issues that Matter
August 29, 2017 by Bill Rosenthal

I don’t know what dinner table conversation is like at your house, but at mine we discuss the day’s activities, new things in our lives, the weather, errands we need to run, chores we need to do, and sometimes books and movies. But if I happen to start talking about the issues I wrestle with every day — data privacy, digital marketing, the cloud, IT certification, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity — I can see the others around the table are only feigning interest. Their eyes glaze over, and some of them begin asking to be excused.

I can’t blame my family for its lack of interest in what must be very abstract issues from their standpoint. I can see the potential these issues have to affect their everyday lives, but I can also see how far removed the issues are from their jobs, their studies, and their pressing concerns. That’s one of the reasons I like to write this blog. I know you, as my readers, care about these things as much as I do, and I am pleased to be able to explore these issues with you. I know you care about them because if you’re in the technology training business today, you can’t afford not to be. (In fact, you need to be well informed on these topics if you’re in any business today.)

In this blog, I can never do much more than scratch the surface of these issues. But Logical Operations is creating the opportunity for our commercial training partners to explore them in depth with the help of leading experts. We are hosting our first conference: LO-CON17. In one fast-paced, interactive, information-intensive day, you’ll have the opportunity to network with key industry insiders, including speakers from the Department of Homeland Security and International Association of Certified Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAOs), which will lead keynote and breakout sessions.

Some of the other speakers include

  • Michael Echols: CEO, IACI International Association of Certified ISAOs, Former Director, Cyber Joint Program Management Office for U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • Erdal Ozkaya: Technical Speaker, Lecturer, and Trainer. Security Architect, Microsoft
  • Paul Janes: President, CoreTriad LLC, and Senior Security Engineer, First Data Corporation
  • Kevin Jackson: Director Cloud Solutions & Technical Fellow, Engility and Instructor, National Cloud Technologists Association (NCTA)
  • Nastja Starcic: Global Partner Account Director, Digital Marketing Institute
  • Erol Staveley: Technical Product Manager, Packt Publishing

If you manage or sell technology training, you owe it to your organization and your career to become part of the discussion. I am really looking forward to this event, because it’s my chance to get together with people who care about these issues as much as I do and to discuss them at the depth they deserve. And it will give my family the opportunity to have dinner without pretending to care about this stuff. I look forward to seeing you there.
